About The Sanctuary of Truth
The Sanctuary of Truth Pattaya was commissioned to be built by Khun Lek Viriyahphan, with much support from his loving wife, Khun Praphai Viriyahphan. The construction of this architectural marvel began in 1981 but remains unfinished to this day to posit the idea of infinity. Its magnificent design draws inspiration from both Buddhism and Hinduism, reflecting their cultural influences that have shaped Thailand over the centuries, honoring the belief that humans must live in harmony with the universe, nature, and spiritual truth.

Design of The Sanctuary of Truth
At its core, Sanctuary of Truth is an embodiment of Thai spirituality, masterfully blending the myths and morals of Hinduism and Buddhism into a single, awe-inspiring structure. Time within the sanctuary’s hand-carved walls intrigues people to ask the philosophical questions, such as: Who are we? Where did we come from? What is the purpose of life? Themes like karma, rebirth, truth, and the impermanence of material things are effortlessly woven throughout the sanctuary’s carvings. The structure is meant to inspire reflection on the spiritual over the material, encouraging visitors to seek inner truth.
In fact, every intricate wood carving was created as part of a profound exploration of seven life truths. The seven truths are as follows:
1. “Who Are We? Where Are We From?”
This truth reminds us of humanity’s shared origins. Through carvings of the four elements (earth, water, wind, and fire), it encourages us to keep in mind that all humans. Regardless of race or religion, we come from the same source and ultimately return to it.
2. “How Do We Live Our Lives?”
This truth explores the natural law of life (birth, aging, and pain) shared by all. It reflects the shared human experience, regardless of differences in appearance or belief.
3. “The End of Life”
Life ends in death. This is a universal truth. This section illustrates that we leave the world with nothing but our deeds. What matters is what we’ve done for others.
4. “Samples of Civilization”
The carvings in this section of the sanctuary depict great Eastern civilizations, whose philosophies and good deeds continue to influence the present, passing wisdom through generations.
5. “What Is a Life Goal?”
Setting meaningful life goals is not easy. This truth offers guidance on how to live purposefully and with intention, illustrated through symbolic pillars.
6. “Society Is Like a Two-Sided Coin”
Society holds both good and bad. This truth teaches the importance of compromise and warns of consequences when harmony is neglected.
7. “The Beginning of Society”
Family is the foundation of life. This truth honors the sacrifices of parents and the deep bonds that shape our values and identity.
